Sights of Ireland - Giant's Causeway

Northern Ireland

They say a picture is worth a thousand words – but these pictures don’t give the beauty of Ireland justice.

The geology of Ireland is very impressive, from the Cliffs of Moher (702-ft above the sea) to the Giants Causeway.  The Giants Causeway was formed from a basalt lava flow some 60 million years ago.  Of course, our tour guide pointed out that was the belief of some scientific nerds and proposed the Irish legend as an acceptable alternative…about a giant that built a bridge from Scotland to reclaim his love to Oonagh only to be outwitted by Oonagh and her husband (you can Google it if you want the whole story).  We toured this impressive geological formation with awe and wonder and understood why there was a legend to describe such an impressive sight.
